Pool, Harvest & Relaxation in Monferrato

A Day at Tenuta La Romana

August and September are months with plenty of room for spontaneity: a few hours by the pool, a walk through the vineyards, or heading off to discover the surrounding area.

Here in the countryside of Nizza Monferrato, all of this is possible without turning your holiday into a race. Nature is right outside the window, and the activities are within easy reach.

The best part of the day starts at breakfast

The first luxury of the day is enjoying the quiet and opening your eyes without hearing traffic. All around you are meadows, vineyards, and hills. Just step outside and take a deep breath to realize that no rush can follow you here!

Then comes breakfast time, with a sweet and savoury selection from the local area: artisan jams, honey, hazelnut cream, fruit, bread and brioche, as well as robiola, toma cheese and Piedmontese cold cuts. And of course, plenty of homemade desserts, from hazelnut cake to apple cake.

A Dip in the Pool

After breakfast, the toughest decision of the day might be this: jump in right away, or stay a few more minutes on the sun lounger? The pools and solarium area are reserved for guests and become the perfect refuge during the hottest hours of these scorching summers.

A swim, some sun, a nap in the shade, or sipping something cold with the hills in view. Some guests could easily spend the whole day like this.

Or you can take advantage of the newly renovated garden, find your favourite spot, and finally open that book that’s been sitting untouched on your nightstand for weeks.

Light lunch: all the flavour, without interrupting the relaxation

Between a swim and a bit of sun, appetite strikes. From April to October the Bistrot at the Tenuta offers light lunch from 12:00 to 14:00: a convenient option for a bite to eat without leaving the property or weighing down the afternoon.

The kitchen focuses on fresh ingredients, seasonal dishes and authentic local flavours, working with a selection of local suppliers: small producers, exceptional products. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly: enjoy your meal in peace, then head back to the pool or set off exploring.

At the Heart of the Grape Harvest

The afternoon is the perfect time to take a closer look at what makes this season in Monferrato so special. Between August and September, the vineyards enter the full swing of the grape harvest. This year the harvest began early with Pinot; next will come Moscato, followed by Barbera.

From the Tenuta, beautiful trails immersed in greenery also set off, leading to scenic viewpoints overlooking the hills. It’s best to tackle them during the cooler hours, with comfortable shoes and no rush: from up high you can take in the vineyards, woods, and the estate’s private lake.

The Afternoon Can Be Slow, or Not!

If you always like to keep moving and your idea of a holiday is an active one, you can book an e-bike and set off with a guide along back roads and rolling hills, even without being particularly fit. There are routes and trails for every level around here.

For those looking for something completely different and eager to try an out-of-the-ordinary activity, just a few minutes from the estate is the famous Pista Winner, over 1 km of track and one of the best outdoor go-kart circuits in all of Italy.

This activity, like all the others we offer through outside partners, requires booking and is subject to availability: reception will be happy to help you choose and book.

From Vine to Glass: The Underground Cathedrals and Tasting the Region’s Finest Wines

On a holiday in Monferrato, the moment for wine inevitably arrives. Just a handful of minutes away by car is the family-run winery Emanuele Gambino, in Costigliole d’Asti.

The tasting offers a close-up look at the wines served at the Tenuta and the work behind every bottle, introducing guests to an independent, young, organic and artisanal production.

Ten minutes away by car, meanwhile, are the Underground Cathedrals of Canelli, part of the UNESCO wine-growing landscape. Beneath the town run kilometres of cellars carved into tuff stone, built for ageing wines and sparkling wines. Gancia, Bosca, Contratto and Coppo offer unforgettable guided tours that should be booked in advance.

When the Only Plan Is to Feel Good

Until September 25th, the Tenuta also offers evening activities on site: lakeside aperitivo and catch-and-release fishing on Wednesdays, an e-bike tour on Thursdays, and yoga in nature on Fridays. Three different ways to enjoy the coolest hours of the day.

If you’re still wondering what to do in Monferrato between August and September, the answer is simple: experience the land with all your senses.

Live the grape harvest up close, taste local products, visit the cellars, cycle through the vineyards, and allow yourself the time to do nothing at all. At Tenuta La Romana, the possibilities are endless — the direction is yours to choose.
